Why Nantea?

Nantea aims to be the island where the castaways of our industry land.

«Rari nantes in gurgite vasto» is a Latin phrase

that translates to "rare swimmers in the vast whirlpool."

This is the second hemistich of a verse from the Aeneid by Publius Vergilius Maro, who has been referenced numerous times throughout history. Its presence can be traced back to medieval literary works, and its usage has continued over the centuries until, in more recent times, it gained proverbial significance.

It is the image that Virgil depicts in the description

of the shipwreck inflicted by the goddess Juno upon Aeneas's Trojan fleet, where some of his companions find themselves adrift,

alone and lost among the waves and the shattered planks

of sunken ships.
